25 Term 2 Week 3
A BUSY START TO TERM 2:
We enjoyed a smooth conclusion to Term 1 and a very positive start to Term 2. Our classrooms have moved quickly back into ‘learning mode’ after a re-energizing break away from the demands of school.
We concluded Term 1 with another very successful ‘Stella Colour Fun Run’ with lots of fun, laughter and heaps of colour! I thank our Parents and Friends committee and Kylie Bowman in particular for their organisation and support in putting the event together.
OPPORTUNITIES TO CELEBRATE:
I don’t think we take enough time to celebrate things in our life! Our lives are so busy and hectic, opportunities to say, ‘well done’ and acknowledge great things occurring in our school or general life are often forgotten. This week, we have had three such opportunities that should not go unnoticed:
MOTHER’S DAY:
On Monday we had over 100 mums / grandparents join us for our Mother's Day Morning Tea and Liturgy. It was a great opportunity to say ‘thanks’ as a collective community. Thanks for the amazing job our Mums do in our lives. As role models, as people who can be counted on, as people who give strong, unconditional love.
CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK:
This week was also Catholic Education Week. This was an opportunity to say thanks for the 101 Catholic Schools in SA. Catholic Schools in SA have been around for over 180 years. They have a clear and guiding purpose – to help create “thriving people, capable learners and leaders for the world God desires”. At Stella, we are very proud of our Catholic tradition and history and we believe that our Catholic tradition permeates through all we do and all decisions we make. We are very grateful for our Catholic school!
VOLUNTEERS WEEK:
Next week (May 19-25) is National Volunteer Week. This is a great opportunity to acknowledge the volunteers in our community who make such a great difference to our school life. The ‘theme’ for this years Volunteers week is ‘Connecting Communities”. There is no doubt that Stella is a better place thanks to our volunteers. From our School Board and P and F committee, to our library volunteers, sport coaches, reading helpers, book coverers and everything in between, our school is a much richer place thanks to those who volunteer their time.
So thank you – to all those who volunteer their time – for a short, long, ongoing or once off time! We appreciate it!
EXTRA-CURRICULA OPPORTUNITIES:
At Stella Maris, we believe that a ‘school experience’ is more than just the high quality learning that happens in our classrooms. This term alone we have had a number of extra-curricula opportunities and events which our students have entered into including:
-
Our Term 2 After School Sport program has begun. A ‘record’ number of sporting teams have been entered into the various After School sports offered to our students. Good luck to those competing this week – especially our Receptions who will be playing their first games!
-
Our Year 4 students attended a fun excursion to the
-
Our Reception students had a very engaging ‘Lego Incursion’ last Friday.
-
Our Year 6 students attended the first of their 3 day Journey to Emaus program – where they join with students from neighboring Catholic schools.
-
Our Senior girls and boys Netball teams competed in the 1st round of the SAPSSA Netball knockout competition. Both teams were undefeated on the day and now move into the next round of the competition.
-
Our Year 2 and 3 students are currently engaged with a Football Clinic run by
-
We held Mother’s Day stalls and a morning tea and liturgy.
-
Our senior Festival Choir continues to work hard in preparation for the Festival Choir performance in Term 3.
-
Our Senior Band is also practicing regularly and sounding outstanding!
Plenty as always happening in our Stella life!
RECEPTION PARENTS WELCOME NIGHT:
Last Friday night, we held our official ‘Welcome to Stella’ night for our Reception parents. It was great to have a large number of parents attend the night. There was a great ‘feel’ and ‘buzz’ in the air as parents mingled and got to know each other in a relaxed environment. We thank the Mooney and Dedic families for their organization and support in setting up for the night.
Regards,
The Leadership Team
Hello to all the families at Stella Maris,
Welcome back to a new term! Last term was exceptionally busy, with our licensed numbers reaching capacity on many occasions. We understand this made it challenging for some families to secure casual bookings. Thank you to those who promptly mark cancellations in the app-your consideration has helped us accommodate more families on our busiest days. We kindly ask that any non-attendance be notified as early as possible so we can continue to support families needing casual bookings.
You may have noticed that a lock has been installed on the OSHC door. This measure is in place to ensure the safety of all children, as an unlocked door poses a risk of intruders entering the service. Please ask oshc staff for the code and try to memorise it for easy access to collecting your child/children
As the term progresses, we ask parents booking children into for extra-curricular sports to please complete the consent form available in the OSHC office. This allows your child to attend their activity while booked into OSHC. Additionally, if your child is attending after-school sport and you are not using OSHC that day, please use the side gate for pick-up. For the safety of all children, the OSHC room cannot be used as a thoroughfare.
During the recent school holidays, the children had a fantastic time! We enjoyed a trip to mini golf, where the children developed their coordination and ball control while having fun with friends. Our visit to Monarto Zoo was a highlight, featuring a private bus tour through the animal enclosures and the chance to see monkeys, rhinos, and the new elephant up close. We also welcomed an ambulance to our school, giving the children a valuable opportunity to learn about the important role of ambulance officers and the medical care provided in emergencies.

On-site, the children engaged in exciting activities, including LEGO build challenges with the Young Engineers incursion, and explored everything Easter through art, craft, roleplay, and sharing real-life experiences. The holidays were busy and filled with fun for everyone!
Looking ahead to this term, we’re excited to introduce a mechanical workshop led by Ben. Children will have hands-on opportunities to dismantle and reassemble car engine parts such as distributors, alternators, and starter motors, building their confidence with tools and learning about different components of car engines. This workshop will run on Wednesdays and may be offered on other days depending on interest.
We are also expanding our science table, adding more resources for children to explore, investigate, and discover STEM-based learning.
We look forward to another engaging and enjoyable term with you all!

This week, James was presented with a cheque for $160.00 after approximately 30 pairs of shoes were purchased. A valuable contribution for our school community.
